Discrimination.
If a white Attorney General pledged to protect white communities,
He would be hung, tarred and feathered.
But when an African-American AG pledges to protect minority communities…
Well, it must be the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder pledged Friday to work to protect low-income minority communities from environmental hazards.
Low-income communities have for decades borne the brunt of the country’s environmental problems. Studies show that toxic waste sites are almost always built near poor communities that often don’t have the resources to protect themselves.
King dreamed of a world where an Attorney General would defend all Americans,
Regardless of their socio-economic status.
And not just those of a certain race, creed or color.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
But somehow the inspiring words of a great man…
Have become twisted and distorted into an unrecognizable political theology;
Whatever happened to the ideal of equality under the law?
