WALTHAM, Mass. —On Sept. 12, 2011, the bodies of three men were found in a Waltham apartment – the victims of a brutal execution.
Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev who was pronounced dead early Friday after a shootout with police, was a friend of one of three men found dead in an apartment in Waltham on Sept. 12, 2011, with their necks slit and their bodies reportedly covered with marijuana.
Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman MaryBeth Long told The Associated Press on Monday that authorities would check for any connections between the murder and Tsarnaev.
She said it’s customary to look for connections between new crimes and unsolved ones.
The men’s throats had been slashed, a medical examiner determined. Their bodies were ripped with knife wounds and then covered with marijuana.
Tsarnaev had been training with one of the 2011 murder victims in an attempt to transition from boxing into a possible career in the sport of mixed martial arts, according to ABC News.
“It was graphic. All three men were killed by wounds to their neck area,” said then-Middlesex County District Attorney Gerard T. Leone at the time.
The men had all been lifelong friends, said Dylan Mess, 21, whose brother Brendan Mess, 25, was killed.
Erik Weissman, 31, was a Cambridge Rindge and Latin graduate who was active in his synagogue.
Raffael “Raffi” Teken, 37, was a Brandeis University graduate who grew up in a prominent Brookline family…
