Murdered Border Patrol Officer Brian Terry

…After speaking with a Boehner Aide who advised me “there’s no truth to that [story]” I was referred to Speaker Boehner’s Press Secretary Michael Steel who stated:  “Such speculation is absurd and untrue. The Speaker appreciates the hard work that Chairman Issa and many others have done to expose this scandal. President Obama’s Department of Justice needs to be accountable.”  Thank you Mr. Steel.  In saner and less corrupt times, this statement would settle the matter.  However…

The problem I have is that, in the past, Speaker Boehner said that he would not authorize another stimulus package…but, he did.  Then, he said that he would not authorize the raising of the US debt limit unless and until major spending cuts were made.  I believe he told Rush Limbaugh just that on Rush’s Radio show.  But, then Boehner turned around and did authorize raising the debt and there was only the pretense of any cuts, with no real ones being made.

The real issue We-the-People have is that there does not seem to be anyone in politics today 13 February 2012 who appears to have any ethics–let alone moral fiber–whatsoever.  Most of them now rather routinely and cavalierly tell us one thing, when they appear to need to do so, and then do just the opposite…

Murdered Border Agent Jamie Zapata

Rumors abound this week of secret negotiations, backdoor meetings and veiled threats aimed at halting Rep. Issa’s investigation of the Fast and Furious scandal. Regretfully, such rumors are all too credible given Speaker Boehner’s history of always seeking a compromise even when victory is in sight.

This is what passes for pragmatism in Republican leadership circles: They settle for crumbs from the table instead of the “half a loaf” of successful compromise.

The investigation by Rep. Darrel Issa’s House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has been uncovering lies and contradictions in the attorney general’s past testimony on the illegal Fast and Furious program that sent about 2,000 guns to Mexican drug cartels. Whether Holder masterminded and directed the illegal program is not clear, but what has become clear is that he knew about it practically from its inception and did nothing to curtail it. Then he lied about it to a committee of Congress.

This is not a question of some minor bureaucratic misjudgment that can now be corrected. People died as a result of this insane and wholly illegal project. Two of the dead are Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata. Zapata was ambushed by cartel assassins deep inside Mexico while working with Mexican authorities. Both were killed with guns brought into Mexico by the Fast and Furious program…

Rep. Issa Signals Contempt Hearings Against Attorney General Holder on Fast and Furious (Video)

…House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa signaled Tuesday that his committee will “move forward with the contempt process against Attorney General Eric Holder unless the Justice Department commits to “providing, at a minimum, a detailed description of documents it is withholding” from his committee in the course of their investigation into ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious.

“The Justice Department’s request for additional time has, unfortunately, not been followed by efforts to bridge the significant differences between its legal obligation to Congress and the reality of its stonewalling,” Issa said in a statement. “The committee is determined to know what happened in Operation Fast and Furious and how the Justice Department responded when it was publicly confronted with evidence of reckless conduct after Agent Terry’s death.”…
