OSAGE, Iowa (AP) – An Iowa man has made a large donation to the Humane Society of Northern Iowa in Mason City – one ton of dog food.

The Globe Gazette says Garth Jordan, of Osage, made arrangements though the Osage Cooperative Elevator to purchase 50, 40-pound bags of food and have it delivered to the shelter.

Jordan says he made the donation to honor the memory of his dog, an Airedale named Muffin.

The bags of food arrived at the shelter on Thursday. Director Sybil Soukup says they are “extremely grateful.”

The Humane Society of North Iowa serves nine counties.
