Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a new challenger in his 2010 reelection campaign — but this one isn’t a Republican.
Nevada columnist Jon Ralston reports that a group calling itself the Tea Party has qualified to appear on the ballot in 2010 and is taking steps to put up Jon Ashjian as a candidate for the U.S. Senate.
The presence of a third-party conservative in the race could draw votes from the Republican nominee, potentially benefiting Reid, who has consistently trailed his GOP opponents in public polls.
