High-profile lawyer Judy Clarke has joined the defense team for the second bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. She is a federal public defender, who according to Judge Andrew Napolitano, specializes in getting people who the government deems “monsters” life terms in jail instead of the death penalty. Her list of clients includes Arizona shooter Jared Loughner and the Unabomber.

According to the Associated Press, Clarke has “an ability to relate to people who are charged with these horrific crimes and to humanize them.”

Napolitano said, “The best I think she can hope for him is not a jury trial, but a guilty plea where he spills his guts for weeks and months in private ‘til the FBI is satisfied that he’s been honest and they’ve learned everything they want from him. In return for which there will be no death penalty and he’ll be sentenced to [solitary confinement].”
