House of Representatives votes to defund Obamacare, keep government running

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 230 -189 Friday morning to strip all funding from Obamacare, the 42nd vote of its kind to come to the floor.

“This is hurting our constituents. This is hurting the American people,” House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told reporters afterward, surrounded by fellow House Republicans.

The short-term funding is designed to prevent a partial government shutdown when the federal budget year ends Sept. 30. The bill will allow for an increase in the nation’s debt limit — but only if President Barack Obama’s signature health care law is defunded.

The bill will now head to the U.S. Senate where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will most likely remove the provision that defunds Obamacare. Senate Democrats have referred to the House measure as a huge “waste of time.”

And even if the bill manages to make it out of the Senate with the defund portion intact (which seems extremely unlikely), the White House promises it will veto the bill.

It is now up to Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who really created this whole “defund” movement, and a handful of other Senate Republicans to see how their legislative body approaches the House-approved bill.

Here’s a basic breakdown of how the House voted Friday morning…

UpdateBoehner: ‘It’s Time For Us to Say No’

…“Listen, this is hurting our constituents.  It’s hurting the American people,” said Boehner. “At a time when the economy is barely eking along, wages aren’t increasing, new jobs aren’t available, and what are we doing?  We’re putting more costs and more inconvenience on the American people.”

“You’ve got businesses all over the country who are not hiring because of the impact of this law,” said Boehner. “You’ve got other businesses that are reducing the hours for their employees because of this law.”…

@BarackObama throws snicker-worthy tantrum over defund Obamacare vote

Boom! The Republican-led House passed a continuing resolution Friday that aims to fund government operations through mid-December and — bam! — defund Obamacare. The OFA-run “Barack Obama” Twitter account went full-on petulant…

Boehner Video: Obama Willing to Negotiate with Putin But Not GOP

While almost all of the mainstream media pretends that calling the GOP’s approach to budget negotiations “disastrous” is nothing more than unbiased analysis, House Speaker John Boehner’s office released a 68- second video that hits president Obama for his willingness to negotiate with Russian President Vladmir Putin over Syria but not with the GOP over the budget.

Sadly, Speaker Boehner has been forced to ask an obvious question our media refuses to ask…
…With this video, Boehner is asking a question our media should have asked the first time Obama threatened a government shutdown with his refusal to negotiate.

Negotiations

Update 2:  Reporter to Carney: Isn’t Obama Threatening a Credit Default by Refusing to Negotiate?

Good question, and it half-applies to government shutdown, too. Republicans have stated publicly and privately that they have neither the intention nor desire to shut down the government when Washington’s temporary budget expires at the end of the month. By contrast, “giddy” Democrats are openly rooting for a shutdown, secure in the knowledge that they’ll be able to exploit it for political gain. Republicans also want to avoid a credit downgrade or partial default over the debt limit matter, but they do intend to extract concessions from Democrats on spending restraint and other reforms in exchange for going along with a (rather unpopular) debt ceiling hike. The White House’s position, however, has been obstinate. President Obama will not entertain any negotiations with Congress over the debt limit. In response, ABC News’ Jon Karl makes the obvious point…

@BarackObama would rather meet with latest Iranian figurehead than John Boehner.

White House hints Obama may meet with Iranian president over sanctions Obama administration praises ‘welcome rhetoric’ over nuclear weapons and says meeting is possible next week in New York..

Has Barack Obama ever met a dictator he didn’t like?

President Obama Says “We’re Not Some Banana Republic” because U.S. House Dares to Stand Up to Him on ObamaCare    Puhleez!

In “Banana Republics” tin-horn dictators impose their will and agenda without regard to what the people want. They disregard the rule of law, and do as they please. It is Barack Obama who makes you think of a “Banana Republic.” The House of Representatives standing up to Barack Obama is the opposite of the term Obama invoked.
