George, that picture reminds me of a bright beautiful sunny day, just after noon, coming out of Church on a Sunday with my father and mother. We were walking and coming down the steps of the church. My father was holding my hand, and we were approached by a bearded man with a beret holding a rifle, and he handed me a shiny object, showing brightly against the blazing sunlight. It was “El Escudo”. The place was Cardenas, Cuba. The date was January 1959.
