It’s a horrible, stupid story from an president who refuses to sign House bills that fund veterans’ services

…The Pentagon confirmed Tuesday that, as long as the budget impasse lasts, it will not be able to pay death benefits to the families of troops who’ve been killed in combat.

“Unfortunately, as a result of the shutdown, we do not have the legal authority to make death gratuity payments at this time,” said Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen, a Defense Department spokesman…

…A Fisher House spokeswoman tells CNN that the charity is making this offer to families of fallen troops with the understanding that whenever the government can pay them, the two parties will work out a reimbursement plan.

“We’re also already helping several of them with free airline tickets, and of course, most will be staying at our Dover Fisher House,” the spokeswoman said. “If the house is full, we’ll pay the hotel bill and any incidentals.”

What a bunch of weasels the Democrats are in the U.S. Senate.

Here is Sen. Ted Cruz challenging the Democrats to fund the Veteran’s Administration and to fund death benefits for the families of U.S. Soldiers killed in action – something already provided for in a previous funding measure passed by the House, Senate, and signed by Obama – but payments not being made by Obama’s weasel administration in order to ratchet up the pain of the Government Shutdown.

Harry Reid objected to funding the VA, and he then refused to engage in a colloquy with Ted Cruz on the Senate Floor.
