Obama focusing on al-Qaida, not Taliban

WASHINGTON — A senior administration official says President Barack Obama is prepared to accept some Taliban involvement in Afghanistan’s political future and is inclined to send only as many more U.S. troops to Afghanistan as are needed to keep al-Qaida at bay.

The assessment comes from an official who has been involved in the president’s discussions with his war council about Afghanistan strategy. The official was authorized to speak to The Associated Press about the discussions but not to be identified by name because the talks are ongoing.

Aides say the president’s final decision on Afghanistan strategy and troop levels is still at least two weeks away, but the emerging thinking suggests he would be unlikely to favor a large military ramp-up of the kind being advocated by his top commander in Afghanistan.

Blogger Pamela Geller wrote today: Differentiate between Al Qaeda and the Taliban? So how’s that done?

Armaros opines, “How do we differentiate between pro AQ Taliban and “good Taliban”?

This is a failed strategy. It is like in 1945 the US was accepting Nazi involvement in the future of Germany.

What future is there with beheaders and girls killers? Will NATO forces defend a state ripe with child rapist women stoning savages?

Whatever happened to the campaign promise of going after them in Pakistan if necessary?

The brave speeches about catching Osama in Pakistan if need be. Now Obama is surrendering Afghanistan to the enemy. Taliban will receive tax payer $$. Can’t wait for that money to be spent on stadiums for stonings and arm choppings.

AQ and Taliban are the same. Sure one is more local, though present throughout Pakistan and Afghanistan but still they are the defenders and administrators of AQ Ideology and AQ Islam.

Obama just threw women and girls back to the hands of acid throwers, child rapists and murderers”.
