SEIU Makes $200,000 Radio Ad Buy for Coakley

The political action committee for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is running more than $200,000 worth of radio ads supporting state Attorney General Martha Coakley in the final days of the Massachusetts Senate race.

According to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission, the influential labor union spent $214,000 on the ads on Tuesday.

Abortion rights groups EMILY’s List and Planned Parenthood Action Fund have also reported independent expenditures on Coakley’s behalf in the past week. EMILY’s List has spent a total of $112,000 on mail and phone banks and Planned Parenthood has dropped $40,000 on mail.

No outside groups have reported independent expenditures for the other three candidates in the Democratic primary of the special election, which Coakley is favored to win. Primary voters will go to the polls on Dec. 8. The general election in slated for Jan. 19.
