'This is probably the biggest cover-up in American history – and you’re talking to an expert in cover-ups..'

Sen Fred Thompson was minority counsel during the Watergate Hearings, who asked the famous question concerning the recording system in the White House so he knows from cover ups:

BLUE ASH, Ohio – Former Sen. Fred Thompson today said he was “totally disgusted” by the Obama administration’s handling of the Libya terrorist attack, saying that U.S. officials failed to act “while our people were being systematically slaughtered” at the Benghazi consulate.

Speaking at an event sponsored by the free-market group Americans for Prosperity, the former Republican senator from Tennessee invoked his experience nearly 40 years ago as a Watergate investigator, saying that Congress must “get to the bottom of” the administration’s failures in the Sept. 11 incident that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead in Libya…

…When a member of the crew that investigated Watergate tells you something is being covered up, you had better believe it…

…Benghazi is a national disgrace, but for the Democrats it’s a disaster of their own making. It remains to be seen if this disaster will effect the entire party or just this administration.

Related: What is Mitt Romney Doing about Benghazi? Here’s What

I’ve been wondering what in the world Mitt Romney is or is not doing, regarding the Benghazi debacle and what he is having to do regarding its heinous backstory. More on the latter, later.

From two bomb blasts by the Republican side last night and one, today, it appears he is willing to fight a proxy war to challenge Obama’s deviance. These came via Fox News, from Newt Gingrich, former Assistant Secretary of Defense Bing West, and former Attorney General and official Romney team member, Michael Mukasey. I suggest listening closely, to all three recaps. Republicans speaking out at such a time may be considered surrogates for Romney, directly or indirectly, with or without plausible deniability — and the Romney campaign knows it…

Report: Ambassador Chris Stevens’ Team Warned Washington Three Hours BEFORE Benghazi Attack Began

The Benghazi Terrorist Attack becomes more of a scandal with each passing day.

Here is Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin reporting this morning from the Pentagon that two cables from Ambassador Chris Steven’s team warned Washington three hours BEFORE the September 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi that “a Libyan Militia was gathering weapons and gathering steam.”

We know the attack itself went on for more than 7 hours, meaning there was at least 10 hours of possible response time to come to the assistance of the Americans on the ground in Benghazi – yet no help was rendered, even though assets were available to come to their rescue.

Update: U.S. sold $40 billion worth of weapons to Muslim nations in 2011

…In March of 2011, Chris Stevens was appointed by Secretary of State Clinton as the official U.S. liaison to the al-Qaeda-linked Libyan rebels, working directly with Abdelhakim Belhadj of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group  (LIFG).  Shortly thereafter, a non-fly-zone was declared by the U.S. and Stevens moved into Benghazi, Libya.  When Libya was liberated in September, Stevens moved to Tripoli as the U.S. Ambassador…

CAJ note: Remember, President Obama involved the United States in the civil war in Libya in the Spring of 2011 and kept us engaged there long beyond the legal limits granted to him under the War Powers Resolution of 1973. Instead of following that law enacted by Congress the President decided to apply Samantha Power‘s “Responsibility to Protect Doctrine.” In April of 2011 British columnist Melanie Phillips wrote:

…Can anyone explain why Britain, America and Europe are trying to remove and even kill Col Gaddafy on the grounds that they have a moral duty to intervene to protect innocent life against a brutal regime, while they are only now thinking about maybe perhaps pushing for sanctions against Assad whose brutal regime mowed down more than 100 people last Friday alone?

Given its habitual indifference to crimes committed by the Arab world, however, the mystery remains – why Libya? Why Egypt? Why does the west assume that the folk opposing the regimes there are democrats worthy of its support (an idiotic assumption in itself) while those in Syria are not? After all, Assad is a mortal enemy of the west…

Global Marxists at work, evidently.

Update 2‘The U.S. effort in Benghazi was at its heart a CIA operation…’

When the bodies of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans killed in Benghazi, Libya, arrived at Andrews Air Force Base after the Sept. 11 attack, they were greeted by the president, the vice president and the secretaries of state and defense. Conspicuously absent was CIA Director David Petraeus.

Officials close to Mr. Petraeus say he stayed away in an effort to conceal the agency’s role in collecting intelligence and providing security in Benghazi. Two of the four men who died that day, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, were former Navy SEAL commandos who were publicly identified as State Department contract security officers, but who actually worked as Central Intelligence Agency contractors, U.S. officials say.

The U.S. effort in Benghazi was at its heart a CIA operation, according to officials briefed on the intelligence. Of the more than 30 American officials evacuated from Benghazi following the deadly assault, only seven worked for the State Department. Nearly all the rest worked for the CIA, under diplomatic cover, which was a principal purpose of the consulate, these officials said…
