WASHINGTON — Longtime U.S. diplomat Richard Holbrook, the Obama administration’s envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, died Monday after undergoing emergency heart surgery for a torn aorta, senior administration officials confirmed to Fox News.

Holbrooke, who wrote part of the Pentagon Papers and was the architect of the 1995 Bosnia peace plan, was 69.
