A primary school in Ireland is asking parents to pack something extra in their children’s school back packs — a roll of toilet paper.

A sign of the tough economic times, the school in the southern county of Cork is trying to cut back on its spending and save a little, according to Reuters.

“The letter was sent out just as a way of balancing books here in the school and not intended as a demand,” Reuters quoted Catherine O’Neill, principal at St. John’s Girls National School.

O’Neill said parents are responding well to the school’s request.

“I’ve done a quick tour of the classrooms this morning and I’d say at least half the pupils have brought them (toilet rolls) in,” she told an Irish news agency.
