The Federal, or as now more commonly known, Constitutional, Convention of 1787 was held in the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall, in Philadelphia from May 14 to September 17, 1787.

George Washington was unanimously elected by the delegates to preside over the convention, and James Madison painstakingly penned comprehensive notes of the proceedings.
