There is a bit of irony that as we approach the celebration of our nation’s birth, a nation born and baptised in the blood of patriots declaring liberty and individual freedom and rebelling against the tyranny and abuse of taxation by a monarch over 3500 miles away, Supreme Court Justice John Roberts has unleashed the unlimited power of government to intrude on and regulate our lives as long as you call it a tax. Perhaps the Boston Tea Party could had been averted if they called it a “Penalty” instead of a tax. It reminds me of the Gadsden Flag used during the American Revolution with the coiled rattlesnake and the defiant warning, “Don’t Tread On Me.” Unfortunately, President Obama and Congress have been given a green light by the Roberts Court to do just that and more.
