‘Obama’s drilling deception’

Obama Pretends That He Is Opening Drilling As Smokescreen For Pushing Cap And Trade

Are you freaking stupid?

Click on the link at the bottom and read the whole thing. This entire thing is crap and blocks more drilling than it opens, hoping that stupid Republicans will fall for it and vote for cap and trade.

After everything that has discredited the Global Warming hoax, Obama is STILL pushing it. This goes to prove once again that Cap and Trade has NOTHING to do with the environment and everything to do with control and taxes.

The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time, officials said Tuesday.

The proposal — a compromise that will please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of affected states and many environmental organizations — would end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.

If this were a sincere change of heart and an honest, stand-alone effort to wean America off foreign oil, it would be worth heralding.

But as always with this administration, there’s a catch, via the American Energy Alliance:

“One major flashpoint in the negotiations has been whether to share drilling revenue with states and to allow states to opt in or out of drilling along their coastlines. It was unclear late Tuesday whether Obama endorses revenue-sharing for states. “It appears the Northern Atlantic and entire Pacific Coast will now be under a de facto ban” for drilling, said Patrick Creighton, a spokesman for the Institute for Energy Research. Even if drilling is ultimately allowed in part of the Atlantic, Creighton said, revenue sharing is an essential incentive for states. The administration’s plans could meet resistance from at least 10 Senate Democrats representing coastal and Great Lakes states who last week raised concerns about “unfettered access to oil and gas drilling” that could jeopardize fishing, tourism and military exercises. The Interior Department retooled the current schedule of offshore leases governing 2007 through 2012 after a federal appeals court last April ruled that the second Bush administration had not done a sufficient environmental review of expanded drilling off the Alaskan coast.

Earlier this month Obama’s Secretary of Energy announced a three-year offshore drilling ban so yesterday’s announcement that Obama would allow drilling in coastal waters came as a shock. But, despite the head fake, the Obama Administration is still hostile to oil development and nuclear power…

…Making matters worse, the Democrat Congress is unfathomably considering a new gas tax. Press reports suggest that the Kerry-Lieberman-Graham climate bill under construction in the Senate may impose a “carbon tax” on motor fuels such as gasoline. This gas tax would target all consumers (especially rural Americans who travel further for work) and result in an increase in air travel, cargo costs, and significantly impact fuel-dependent industries such as trucking…

CAJ Note: Just a few hours ago we viewed Congressman Paul Ryan online as he spoke to the Heritage Foundation in Dallas, TX. During the question and answer session he stated the Senate does not have the votes to pass Cap and Trade and Ryan believed that the President would have to either use the EPA to implement the program or “find” the votes in the Senate. Ryan is convinced that the numbers for Cap and Trade do not add up and that it will have little impact upon the environment, given the booming industries in India and China, while profoundly hurting the U.S. economy.

Here is video of candidate Obama speaking in Jacksonville, FL, 20 June 2008. At CAJ we do not believe Mr. Obama has experienced this radical a change in his ideology and are deeply wary of the motivation behind yesterday’s announcement. He has just signed into law a major entitlement program and no reliable way to pay for it, especially as three established entitlement programs are currently unfunded and collapsing under the weight of their liabilities.

UPDATE: Americans for Prosperity’s Kerpen on drilling: ‘Obama is talking about lifting a nonexistent ban’

President Obama announces today that he will “allow” oil drilling off the coast of Virginia. AFP Vice President for Policy Phil Kerpen issued the following statement:

“Obama is talking about lifting a nonexistent ban! Bush lifted the executive ban in July 2008, and Congress lifted the legislative ban in October 2008. There is no legal impediment to drilling now, except that the Obama administration refuses to offer leases. So the idea that this is a big concession in exchange for which Congress should jumpstart climate legislation is ridiculous. I’ll believe they are really allowing drilling when they actually offer leases. Also, the 50-mile restriction means he is actually ADDING a NEW moratorium on waters inside of 50 miles.
