Here are Charles Krauthammer and Steve Hayes commenting on the news that the IRS informed Congress today that they have mysteriously “lost” two years worth of emails that belonged to Lois Lerner. The emails happened to cover the period of time when the IRS was targeting Conservative groups for special scrutiny. Just a coincidence, I’m sure.

…Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), who heads the Ways and Means Committee, issued a statement today saying that, “The fact that I am just learning about this, over a year into the investigation, is completely unacceptable and now calls into question the credibility of the IRS’s response to Congressional inquiries. There needs to be an immediate investigation and forensic audit by Department of Justice as well as the Inspector General.”…

…IRS Commissioner John Koskinen testified before the House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee that it would take a long time to retrieve all of the Lois Lerner emails that were subpoenaed, but he never hinted that they had been “lost” in a computer crash or otherwise. Rep Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) wasn’t buying that excuse then, and he’s posted the YouTube video to prove it…
…“I have asked NSA Director Rogers to send me all metadata his agency has collected on Lois Lerner’s email accounts for the period which the House sought records,” Stockman said in a press release. “The metadata will establish who Lerner contacted and when, which helps investigators determine the extent of illegal activity by the IRS.” “The claim incriminating communications were erased by a glitch conjures memories of Rose Mary Woods,” the congressman added. “Barack Obama has brought us Jimmy Carter’s economy and Richard Nixon’s excuses.”…
…Norman Cillo, an Army veteran who worked in intelligence and a former program manager at Microsoft, argued it is very difficult to lose emails for good and laid out six reasons why he believes Congress is “being lied to” about the Lerner emails…
Update 2: IRS Rules Say Lerner Was Required to Keep Printed Copies of Those Supposedly ‘Lost’ Emails
The Internal Revenue Service has guidelines that require all IRS employees to keep printed copies of all work-related emails.
That means even if the IRS did experience a computer crash that makes it unable to retrieve certain emails to and from former IRS employee Lois Lerner, as the IRS is claiming, those emails should have been printed out and kept on file by Lerner. And if Lerner failed to do that, she violated IRS rules….
