NORFOLK — Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth has been removed from Norfolk Public Schools’ summer reading list.
Laura Brown, who has a fourth grader in Norfolk Schools, complained, saying it was too dramatic for young readers.
Norfolk Schools stressed the book lists suggested reading material, not required reading material.
While the book is off the list, it remains in high school libraries, which Brown believes is appropriate.
Brown also felt the school system needed to balance the book with differing viewpoints, so the district also added links to the newspapers Washington Post and Wall Street Journal.
