Amnesty by executive order: Rep. Steve King to sue Obama administration over new immigration policy

Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King said Friday that he plans to sue the Obama administration to halt implementation of its newly announced selective illegal immigration law enforcement policy. He told Mike Huckabee on the former Arkansas governor’s radio program Friday that he successfully sued his own state’s governor — and won — over a similar separation-of-powers issue.

“I will tell you that — I’m not without experience on this — I’m prepared to bring a suit and seek a court order to stop implementation of this policy,” King said

“I have done it once in the past successfully when then-Governor Tom Vilsack thought he could legislate by executive order — and the case of King vs. Vilsack is in the books. And that individual, by the way, is now the Secretary of Agriculture. I wonder if he’s not counseling the president on his legal proceedings.”

Huckabee followed up, asking King: “You plan to sue this administration for implementing something that you believe should have required legislative process and approval?”

“That is correct,” King replied

The Iowa Republican is vice-chairman of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement.

On Friday morning, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the Obama administration’s plan to selectively enforce illegal immigration law by refusing to deport illegal aliens brought to the U.S. as “young children” — effectively an administrative version of the DREAM Act…

On Friday morning, President Barack Obama announced an executive order to cease the deportation of young immigrants who arrived in America before age 16 and allow them to apply for work permits so long as they have no criminal history and meet other criteria. In response, Congressman Allen West(R-FL) told Fox News that he sees this as a possible “backdoor” opportunity for the White House to eventually allow undocumented immigrants to vote.

The congressman told Martha MacCallum that the president’s executive order “shows that we are getting away from government that is based upon the consent of the American people, and we’re starting to live under a rule by edict or executive order.”…

Update 2: Obama gives young illegal aliens de facto amnesty, say critics

While practicing the fine art of “linguistic gymnastics,” the Obama administration on Friday blessed an estimated 800,000 young, illegal aliens with a bite of the amnesty apple, according to critics of President Barack Obama’s immigration enforcement record.

In an announcement sure to create controversy and anger many Americans, President Obama on Friday announced that effective immediately, certain young people who were brought to the United States as young children, do not present a risk to national security or public safety, and meet several key criteria will be considered for “relief from removal from the country or from entering into removal proceedings.”

Speaking from the White House Rose Garden, President Obama told reporters that illegal aliens  who demonstrate that they meet his administration’s criteria will be eligible to receive deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal, and will be eligible to apply for work authorization…
