…it is a very short step to mandating how many children are appropriate for a woman to have. This is how China got to forced abortions. THAT is a real women’s rights issue.

Related: Sebelius: Contraception Mandate Won’t Cost Taxpayers Because There Will be Fewer People to Insure
In a classic example of what many observers will call a “she said what” moment, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius explained that the population controlling effects of the contraception mandate will compensate for its costs to taxpayers in a hearing before a House panel today.
“The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for the cost of contraception,” Sebelius said.
Her questioner, Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), responded with no small measure of incredulity. “So by not having babies born, we’re saving money?”…

…“I just don’t like the government in this business,” Paul told Piers Morgan. “I’m stronger in believing the market works these things out…I think its a rather silly argument about who’s going to get free birth control pills.”…
Does Reproductive Freedom Imply a Right to Free Birth Control?
Yesterday the Senate narrowly rejected a bill that would have exempted employers and insurers from medical coverage mandates to which they object on moral or religious grounds…
…Supporters of Obama’s birth control rule conflate liberty with subsidies, insisting that you are not really free to do something (in this case, use contraceptives) unless it’s free. According to this logic, observant Jews do not have religious freedom unless the government pays for their kosher food, bloggers do not have freedom of speech unless taxpayers buy them computers, and Americans in general do not have a right to keep and bear arms if they have to pay for guns with their own money. By contrast, the religious institutions that object to the contraceptive mandate are not asking for subsidies; they are resisting them. They object to a regulation that forces them to pay for products and services they consider immoral. They want the freedom to offer their employees health plans that do not cover contraception and sterilization…

Update 2: Sandra Is A Fluke…A Lie To Help Push Another Lie, While Piling On Rush Limbaugh To Distract
I only heard about her testimony after the fact, but so many people are making a big deal about Rush Limbaugh calling this Sandra Fluke a “slut” because she wants us to pay for her sex.
I guess people forgot Rush’s axiom of “Illustrating Absurdity by Being Absurd.” Provoking people to make them think.
I think the piling on Rush is stupid, and I’m not going to participate and aid fascistic groups like Media Mutters who want to take down opposing points of view. I think it’s illustrative that a lot of these people who are attacking Rush didn’t say a word when Sarah Palin was called…
