This afternoon, the US House failed to pass a temporary spending bill that would have authorized the government to continue operating past September 30, when fiscal year 2011 and the current temporary budget end.
The move came as a surprise to GOP House leadership, who claimed just yesterday evening that they had plenty of votes to pass it.
The bill, which authorized spending from October 1 – November 18, lost by a vote of 195-230, with 40 Republican representatives voting against it and only 6 Democrats voting for it…
