A private restaurant has been shutdown by the National Park Service despite costing nothing to the taxpayers to operate. Scenic overlooks, little more than roadside parking lots, have been shut down. The privately-owned Mt. Vernon, George Washington’s Home, was barricaded by the National Park Service though the owners are now pushing back to tell the public they’re open.
Republicans are arguing that this is all shutdown theater. An effort by the Obama administration to manufacture negative headlines during the government shutdown. And, according to some Park Service officials, they’re right…
…“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”…
