The growing number of “flash mobs” performing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from his masterpiece Messiah has been a wonderful gift this Christmas season. Whether it’s free expression of religion in the public square, or nothing more than groups of people who love to sing joining in on a trend, it really doesn’t matter. The music that is shared with strangers all around is glorious and uplifting, and we never know where the ripples of a ‘good deed’ will end.
I am thankful for all these performances and all those who participated. We had one in Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago; I wasn’t there but heard of it afterward and found the video. It may be only beautiful music to some, but I trust that for many, it was a moment in time to praise and worship God in a place where ordinarily we shop and go see a movie…
