There was a time in our nation’s history when workers needed to come together and stand strong in solidarity and union. The tragedies that took place in 19th century America regarding unsafe working conditions, low pay, and even children forced into labor created the environment where union growth was not just an advantage, but in many cases, it was a necessity.

However, unions in America since World War II have become more of a political machine than a formalized labor co-op, and in many cases, seek to dominate businesses and corporations through coercion, and sometimes violence. This mentality was validated on Jan. 7 when the head of the Chicago Teachers Union told members at the Labor History Society that violence and murder were an integral part of the unions beginnings, and opined that the disparity between the rich and poor today was nearing a point where such tactics may be called into practice again.

Do not think for a minute that the wealthy are ever going to allow you to legislate their riches away from them. Please understand that. However, we are in a moment where the wealth disparity in this country is very reminiscent of the robber baron ages. The labor leaders of that time, though, were ready to kill. They were. Update 2:   Union thugs suspected in arson of Quaker meetinghouse over Christmas

Over Christmas, a long planned Quaker meetinghouse was torched and it seems like union thugs are to blame. The meetinghouse, which was first conceived back in 1997, was built by a nonunion contractor as it was the only way to do the project affordably. But union members didn’t like this, and a series of confrontational visits between the Quakers and the union officials. The police now believe it was disgruntled union members who burned down the meetinghouse…
